Recently, Toray of Japan said that it would increase the production capacity of carbon fiber composite (CFRP) production bases in the United States, South Korea and France by 2025. The investment is expected to be 100billion yen.
Toray said that this expansion is to meet the future expansion of global demand for new energy and hydrogen pressure vessels, as well as the recovery growth of aerospace manufacturing demand.
In addition to the expansion of CFRP production, Toray carbon fibers Europe, a subsidiary of Toray, also said that it would invest about 100million euros to build a production line with a capacity of 1000 tons in a factory in southwest France.
The new production line will mainly produce high-performance products including high modulus (HM) carbon fibers to meet the needs of high-tech industries such as renewable energy, nuclear energy and aerospace. Construction will start in the second half of 2023 and production is expected to start by the end of 2025.
By 2022, according to the output statistics disclosed by the company, the global capacity of Toray carbon fiber has reached 57800 tons/year, including 28800 tons/year of conventional specification (small tow) carbon fiber; 29000 tons/year of large tow carbon fiber; Compared with 2021, the total annual capacity increased by 3600 tons.
In terms of revenue, as of the third quarter of fiscal year 2022, Toray’s total revenue reached 126.18 billion yen, an increase of 18.7% year on year; Among them, the carbon fiber composite sector benefited from the development of new energy and other emerging fields, with a growth rate of not small, and its revenue reached 140billion yen, a year-on-year increase of 41.5%.
